Hummingbird Attractor
These plants are magnets to hummingbirds. They provide lots of colour, height and nectar to attract and feed our fast feathered friends. Hummingbirds are a delight to watch for young and old alike and are excellent hunters of flying insects.

Bee Balm - A slow spreading plant that has a great aroma. Sprinkle its leaves and flowers in fruit salads. Good plant for poor, well drained soil. It has a unique flowering habit, funky seed heads which makes it a gorgeous as a cut flower. Butterflies and hummingbirds love this plant and it is drought tolerant and deer resistant. Note that the bergamot herb is not the source of bergamot oil.

Foxglove Mix - This  variety produces spires of white and pink tubular florets with vividly speckled throats. Flowers 1st year from early sowing fall sowing. Plants are hardy bi-ennials. Useful in a wild flower garden as it self sows easily. Ancients  founded the medicinal uses that are still used today in the treatment of heart problems. Hummingbirds love the early and late blooms. Cut flowering stems down to the ground to encourage second spikes.

Giant Yellow Scabiosa - A rarely seen, bold plant for large beds and borders. 1 - 2 ft. clump forming plant with large deeply lobed leaves that produces a profusion of pale yellow pincushion like flowers, on stems that reach 6 to 10 feet. Attract butterflies and other nectar lovers to your garden.  Good  drought tolerant, cut flower with a long bloom period and vase life when flower is harvested just as it is opening.

Hollyhock - Large red flowers on tall spires up to 8ft tall. Blooming in late June on making them great for the back of borders & beds. Appreciates wind protection.Excellent cut flower. Very drought tolerant and does well in poor soils.

Larkspur - Very easy to  grow these prolific plants that produce a gorgeous mixture of colored single and double blooms, that take on a florescent effect in low light conditions.Does well in rock gardens, beds and moisture retentive soil.Fantastic cut or dried flower source.
Sweet Joe Pye Weed - Great cut flower with a sweet vanilla scent.Excellent choice for shdier beds. Native to damp meadows, marshes and stream banks. This plant prefers rich soil but will grow well in almost any soil. Native to damp meadows, marshes and streams banks, this plant will grow well in almost any conditions. Normal height is  4 feet but plants can grow up to 6 feet in optimal conditions. Plants are topped with eye catching flower heads in reds, pink and purples on tall straight stems. Butterflies and hummingbirds adore this plant and you will find they visit the blooms regularly.Blooms mid to late summer.

Verbascum - Similar in habit to Foxgloves but produces even taller, branching spires with  bright golden yellow flowers from mid summer onwards. Forms a dense basil clump of gray - green, woolly felt covered leaves, making it drought tolerant or Deer Resistant. Native to the dry, rocky hillsides of Greece and Turkey.  It thrives in poor, well drained soils and self sows making it a great selection for  a wildflower garden.
